Knit bags are still the rage - retro, felted, crocheted - anything goes... Here are some fun, portable projects using novelty yarns that you might not otherwise try...

Purse using 2 balls of Filatura Di Crosa Tokyo yarn (doubled on an 11 needle). The pattern is in their Fall/Winter 2004 Collection. Clasp closure is from M&J Trims.

Funky Blossom Bag with flower detail is from the Simply Noro book - a Jane Ellison design. (5 skeins Noro Blossom)

The "Lipstick Bag" - featured in Knitter's Magazine Winter 2004 - is worked in a simple two row "Tunisian" pattern. The sample is in Noro's Daria, (3 hanks), a cotton/rayon soutache-type cord. The flamboyant ruffle is crocheted, as is the spiral decoration at the bottom.

The ever-popular Booga Bag (free pattern www.blacksheepbags.com) uses Noro Kureyon (3 skeins) which felts fabulously. The only difficulty is choosing from the vast array of colors. We used #92.

Crocheted Annie Bag - a Berroco Web exclusive pattern (www.berroco .com) using Zen & Zen Color (3 hanks main and 2 each of contrasting colors. A quick, easy crochet for a very useful carryall.
